Since 2013, median home sales prices in North Texas have shot up by almost 50 percent.
And the average cost of an apartment in Dallas-Fort Worth is 21 percent higher than it was five years ago.
So it couldn’t be more welcome news that this year’s data shows the cost of buying a house or renting an apartment in the D-FW is growing at a much slower rate than in recent years.
Median prices of houses sold by local real estate agents in the first five months of 2018 were 5 percent higher than in the same period of 2017. That’s half the appreciation rate of the previous 12 months and the lowest price growth in almost five years.
On the rental side, overall D-FW apartment rents are up by only 1 percent at midyear. And in some neighborhoods that have seen lots of construction, average rents are actually falling.
